Operative words
The 2020 Oregon State Fair, originally scheduled to run from August 28 through September 7, is canceled per State of Oregon restrictions on the size of mass gatherings. The announcement was made today by Oregon's governor: mass gatherings are prohibited through September as part of the Governor's phased reopening plan. This decision was driven by the need to guarantee safe social distancing to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, aka COVID-19. The Oregon State Fair Council had hoped to continue the 156-year tradition of this classic American state fair. But the Council fully supports the State of Oregon's measured, scientific, and responsible approach to combatting COVID-19.
Enforcement
Cancellation by the public corporation that operates the fair; the underlying gathering prohibition carried ORS 401.990 penalties
Notes
Reaches carnival operators, concessionaires, livestock exhibitors, commercial vendors, entertainers, security and staffing contractors and Salem-area hotels.
