Operative words
Effective immediately, the Mississippi Department of Corrections is suspending the transfers of inmates from all county jails to MDOC custody until further notice. The action is in addition to the temporary suspension of visitation at all facilities with MDOC inmates as the MDOC establishes sanitation and prevention protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19. There will be limited transfer of inmates between MDOC facilities unless absolutely necessary.
Enforcement
Commissioner's authority (Miss. Code Ann. § 47-5-28)
Notes
Mississippi's private prisons and regional county facilities hold State inmates under contract; the transfer freeze changed their populations and revenue.
