Operative words

any person over age two who is in a place open to the public in the Commonwealth, whether indoor or outdoor, and is unable to or does not maintain a distance of approximately six feet from every other person shall cover their mouth and nose with a mask or cloth face covering... This requirement applies to all workers and customers of businesses and other organizations open to the public

Penalty

Civil fine up to $300 per violation under G.L. c. 40, s. 21D

What it required

Workplace infection-prevention and exposure-control requirement: face coverings for every worker and customer in a place open to the public where six feet cannot be kept, and at all times inside grocery stores, pharmacies and other retail stores and in taxis, ride-sharing and mass transit; a business could decline entry to a customer refusing a covering; enforced by DPH, local boards of health and authorized agents under G.L. c. 111, s. 30 with police.
