Operative words

Public Health will continue to interview everyone who tests positive for COVID-19... Cases will be provided with instructions on how to isolate until they are no longer contagious and will receive daily text messages during their isolation period through a secure system called Sara Alert.... Everyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will be instructed to isolate at home until they are no longer contagious. Those who test positive and have symptoms of COVID-19 can end isolation when: they've been fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medicine AND other symptoms are improving AND at least 10 days have passed since symptoms began.... Close contacts should quarantine at home for 14 days from the last day they were in close contact with the sick person. They should not go to work, school, child care or church, or participate in other social or community activities during quarantine.

Enforcement

Local health officer isolation and quarantine authority (RCW 70.05.070; WAC 246-100-036); the release states instructions, not penalties

Notes

Records the County's isolation and quarantine instructions during the fall 2020 surge (277 new cases on Nov. 17; more than 100 per day). Under Washington law the local health officer's isolation and quarantine directives are enforceable (WAC 246-100-036, -040); the release is phrased as instructions and guidance.

Retrieval note

County Public Health release; no written health officer order is in the exhibit. Cite as the department's stated isolation and quarantine practice, not as a numbered order.
