As bad as we wanted to have it, at that time, we had to make a call four months ago. The thought of putting 3,500 people in grandstands and 4,000-5,000 people in downtown Joplin at an awesome concert with all the COVID madness of that time just didn't seem to be the prudent thing to do. 2020: In-person show cancelled (decision about May 2020); replaced by a four-hour livestream Sept. 25, 2020. 2021: Held in person Sept. 22-25, 2021 ('the last in-person show for the every-other-year event was 2018'). Usual dates: Late September (2020: Sept. 24-26 planned; 2021: Sept. 22-25, 2021). Scale: '3,500 people in grandstands and 4,000-5,000 people in downtown Joplin' at the concert; 'nothing replaces 10,000 people and 800 trucks' (organizer); 2021: registration cut off at 800 trucks; more than 400 trucks in the Special Olympics convoy.
