Operative words

(a) Every employer shall furnish employment which shall be reasonably safe for the employees therein, shall furnish and use safety devices and safeguards, shall adopt and use methods and processes reasonably adequate to render such an employment and place of employment safe, and shall do every other thing reasonably necessary to protect the life, health, safety, and welfare of such employees.

Penalty

Section 34-2-13(a): any employer or owner who violates or fails or refuses to comply with any provision of the chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable for each offense by a fine of $20 to $200, imprisonment up to six months, or both

What it required

Every employer in Georgia must furnish reasonably safe employment, use safety devices and safeguards, adopt methods and processes adequate to render the place of employment safe, and 'do every other thing reasonably necessary to protect the life, health, safety, and welfare of such employees'; subsection (b) requires 'every employer and every owner of a place of employment, place of public assembly, or public building' to 'construct, repair, and maintain such facility as to render it reasonably safe.' Section 34-2-6(a)(4) gives the Commissioner of Labor rulemaking power 'for the prevention of accidents or the prevention of industrial or occupational diseases in every employment or place of employment.'
